behind the lens.
Hey there! I'm Khadeejha. I graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Photography and I minored in Entrepreneurship. It all started in elementary school when I wrote "When I grow up I want to be a photographer because I want to take pictures". I hope to make my dreams become reality and make younger me proud. I would love it if you followed me along on my journey.
Artist Statement
My current body of work focuses on the relationship of humans and color. Human nature, specifically emotions, is explored through the combination of portraiture and color. The models in my photographs reflect emotions of my own, forming a self-portrait in a way. Color can change how a viewer sees a work of art and the same can be said for the lack of color; utilizing different hues allows me to convey a specific message to the viewer.
I exploit digital photography and various editing software techniques to enhance my photographs. When drafting ideas for a project, I aim to find something I seldomly do. Digital photography and color gels and studio multi-color LED lights allow me to form a specific mood, dramatic condition, or atmosphere in a photograph. For me, making art is an intuitive process. Though I never know what direction the work is going in, I collect different thoughts and ideas deliberately and effectively. I draw inspiration from other photographers who take a similar approach to photography as I do. Their works aid me in creating my own sense of how I want my work to come across to the viewer. Some photographers that inspire me are Elaine Torres, Mathew Guido, and Lindsay Adler. When I am in the editing stage of the process, I really put an importance on the luminosity.
Portraiture photography lets me get to know individuals on a one-on-one basis and from there, I am able to form a better relationship with the model. I get insight into how they discern the world, and I can combine their vision to be parallel with a certain color or multiple colors to further intensify their perception and create a competent photograph. Capturing human nature's correlation with color through the use of digital photography permits me to let the final photograph be the speaker and I am the listener.
